Brief History and Activities
The Islamic University College, Ghana (IUCG) has, since its establishment in 2000 produced thousands of graduates, who have been rendering valuable services to the nation in almost every sector of the Ghanaian economy. In order to establish partnership with these industrious graduates towards the development of the University, efforts were made between 2005 and 2009 to form a vibrant alumni association of IUCG.
In April 2012, the Alumni Association successfully organized its first homecoming and public event, attracting audiences from different strata of the Ghanaian society. The most important aspect of the celebration was a forum for the Muslim community on the theme: “The Role of the Muslim Community in Ensuring Peace before, during and after the 2012 General Elections in Ghana”. Mr. Emmanuel Bombande, the Executive Director of the West Africa Network for Peace Building (WANEP) was the guest speaker, and delivered an impressive speech dealing with the theme exhaustively from a very technical standpoint.
Since 2012, the Association has had successive executives, who have been organizing annual Alumni Homecoming events during Easter Holidays. However, because the Alumni Association was still in its formative period, the Homecoming events organized between 2013 and 2015 focused on restructuring its leadership so as to effectively mobilize its membership for active public engagement. In this regard, the executives used the annual homecoming events as platform to exchanging ideas and experiences in relation to the development of individual members and the Association as a whole. In 2013, the Association manufactured three podiums for the lecture halls to enhance the works of lecturers. The Alumni have also been interacting and sharing ideas and experiences with the Management of IUCG from time to time.
The Association has just recently held its annual Homecoming event from 2nd to 4th April, 2015, under the theme: 'Reuniting the IUCG family to enhance our corporate image'. The event helped in strengthening the relationship between the Alumni and Management of the University for the purpose of enhancing the corporate image of IUCG.
