Dr. Mohsen Maarefi, President of IUCG, says Islamic University College, Ghana [IUCG] is ready to partner Muslim organizations in Ghana to help better the lot of Muslims through capacity building. He was speaking over the weekend at the second Graduation ceremony of the Imamship program organized by IUCG in collaboration with the Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu Education Trust Fund (SONSETFUND), headed by the National Chief Imam, Dr. Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

The Imamship program has been designed to train imams by augmenting their skills and enabling them to give enhanced spiritual advice and services as well as bridge the gap between theory and practice. Underlining the importance of this collaboration, the President said, “What is being witnessed today is the fruit of the collaborative work between IUCG and the National Chief Imam in accordance with the MOU signed a year ago.”

Dr. Maarefi, therefore, advised Muslims to build strong organizations and collaborations for the common good of the Muslim community. He posited that, Allah’s statements: "There has to be a NATION among you summoning to good, biding what is right, and forbidding what is wrong… (Qur’an 3:104)” and "When we sent to them two [apostles], they impugned both of them. Then We reinforced them with a third… (Qur’an 36:14)” illustrate the importance of building strong organizations and collaborations. He, therefore, pledged IUCG’s commitment to work with other organizations, especially in academic field.

Participants in the Imamship program were taken through courses such as Arabic Language, English Language, ICT, Public Speaking, Islamic Jurisprudence, Mosque Management, Methodology in Da'awah, Fund-Raising Techniques etc. According to the Imams the program has provided them with opportunities to become responsive to the needs of their congregation and has helped develop their skills in sermon delivery, conciliatory role among others.
