In an event organized at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) on 17th December, 2019 the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) awarded Mr. Ibrahim Mahama of the Islamic University College Ghana (IUCG) as the Best SRC NUGS President (Local NUGS president) in the country. Mr. Mahama, the Local NUGS president of IUCG received the award for his outstanding contribution to NUGS for the 2019/2020 academic year.

Before he became the Local NUGS President of IUCG, he earlier contested and lost the election for the same portfolio in 2018 and subsequently served as the local NUGS treasurer that same year. A role he carried out with distinction as he was recognized by the SRC and won the award for the best SRC sub-executive. The following year he contested again for Local NUGS president. He won and assumed office in May, 2019.

Ibrahim Mahama hails from Garu-Tempane in the Upper East Region. Growing up, he had his educational background spilt between his hometown and Tema. He attended Basyondey Primary School before migrating to the capital where he had his Junior and Senior High education. At Datus International School where he had his Senior High School education, he is famed to have formed the Datus Business Club.

Under his stewardship as Local NUGS president Mr. Mahama chalked several feats. In 2019 he was appointed Chairperson of the NUGS team that sought to unite the national student union for the first time.

The Mahama led team also drafted a new constitution and for the first time, a United Congress was held for NUGS on the campus of Islamic University College, Ghana (IUCG). The choice of venue was masterminded by Mr. Mahama as he aspired to have the historic event held in his school. An event that was successfully hosted on the beautiful campus of Islamic University with pride on the 10th of November, 2019.

As Local NUGS president IUCG he also helped secured sponsorship packages from corporate organizations such as CAL BANK, UMB and INDOMIE Ghana to sponsor certain activities on campus.

The story of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama is such an inspiring one filled with determination, hard work and a never-say-die attitude. For those of us at IUCG who see him up close, it comes as no surprise that he was awarded the Best SRC-NUGS President.

The management, lecturers, staff and the student body of the Islamic University College Ghana (IUCG) congratulates him on his latest feat and wish himall the best in the future.

BARKA, AYEKOO
