IUCG participates in PUSAG Debate Championship
The Islamic University College, Ghana participated in the maiden edition of the National PUSAG debate competition on the 28th and 29th of May, 2021. The debate was held as part of the activities marking the fourteenth (14th) Private Universities Students Association (PUSAG) congress hosted by Perez University College, Winneba.
The event was organized under the theme ‘The role of Private University Students in fixing our homeland Ghana post Covid-19’. Representing the University College (Team IUCG) were Abdul Basit Goodman, Sumaiya Numbo and Salamatu Musah Saeed. Team IUCG was pared in early stage against the team from Presbyterian University College. Both teams debated on the motion, “That religious bodies and personalities (I.e churches, mosques, and their leaders) should not be allowed to endorse, campaign or comment on political candidates in elections” with Team IUCG winning and breaking through to the semi-final.
In the semi-final round against the host institution, Perez University College, the motion was “That Twene Jonas should apologize to the Asantehene”. Team IUCG came short in this round and could not proceed to the final nonetheless, won some medals for the University College (Second Best Speaker and Best Institutional Speaker). Congratulations to Team IUCG for its astonishing performances throughout the competition.
